“Articles by integrated marketing communications (IMC) students at the University of Mississippi. The “MarComm Hub” handbook functions as a primary resource for Integrative Marketing Communications (IMC) students, offering them a platform to showcase the creative projects they’ve crafted during their academic journey. It serves as an exclusive space for students to share insights and content across various subjects, encompassing social media marketing, traditional advertising, public relations, design and graphics, influencer marketing, CSR marketing, and more.”
In my IMC 390 Advanced Writing course, we were assigned a collaborative project to write about any interesting topic and how it correlates with our degree study. We were also required to implement the PESO (paid, earned, shared, owned media) model into our article’s framework. This handbook is published on the issuu site under the School of Journalism and New Media. There is also a print version available through Ole Miss! My piece is found on page 3 in the table of contents. Below are the instructions we were given:
“We have chosen the University of Mississippi, Department of IMC as the brand for our collaborative effort. Our class will function as a content group, working together on a joint project for the Owned component: the creation of a comprehensive guide tailored to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). This guide will encompass articles focused on IMC-related topics.
Description: In light of the growing need for comprehensive marketing strategies among small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) across various sectors, our class, currently enrolled in IMC 309 Advanced Writing in Marketing Communication, is thrilled to introduce a practical handbook. Each student will undertake the task of crafting at least one essay, with credit allocated accordingly. These essays will then be compiled into a comprehensive booklet. Unlike previous assignments focusing on specific businesses, we encourage a more generalized approach tailored to SMBs, aiming to offer valuable insights and guidance within this sector. As you craft your essays, leverage your knowledge and interests to furnish practical tools for business owners in marketing. Each piece should offer actionable advice, covering areas such as digital marketing, PR, advertising, storytelling, design, content, photography, media platforms or consumer behavior. Maintain focus on the brochure's objective: to equip SMBs with actionable insights. Your contributions should empower business owners, in any filed, to effectively navigate marketing challenges. “
In the summer of 2023, I submitted an entry for the Keesler Federal Credit Union Annual Lisa J. Stubbs Memorial Scholarship Contest. Having taken an IMC Explorations course about the rise of narrative artificial intelligence, I was interested in sharing what I had learned. The prompt was, ""How do you think artificial intelligence will shape the future of education?" I was honored to be a recipient and write about this quickly evolving use of technology.
Exploring Narrative Intelligence
During my time as a digital media intern at EdgeTheory in Oxford, Mississippi, I gained experience with artificial intelligence tools. Using the company’s technology along with a mix of human and artificial intelligence, I wrote objective pieces about trending news topics, deciphered analytical briefs from the media, and developed detailed prompting strategies for ChatGPT. Below are a few pieces I developed to be published on EdgeTheory’s website. In the summer of 2023, I constructed this piece about the wildfire occurring in Nova Scotia. I featured some updated visuals of the new technology EdgeTheory was implementing as well as prominent themes in the news. At Seaside Social News, I got a first-hand glimpse into the world of reporting and journalism.
The owner of the Seaside Social News publication and Ole Miss School of Journalism alumni, Amanda Compton-Ortiz, provided me with valuable insights into the importance of building relationships with local citizens and learning about my community through interview methods, photography, and storytelling. This was a fun and engaging internship that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Click the preview for a link to the published article-heads up, it is lengthy! This was my first time covering a live event for a story after learning how to properly interview and photograph my subjects. I was honored to have the support and guidance of the organization owner, Amanda Compton-Ortiz, who edited the piece before posting.
This article was written as a content piece to connect with Gulf Coast alumni of the University of Mississippi. I attended the Ole Miss Club of the Coast’s first “Christmas in July” fundraiser at the Chandeleur Island Brewing Company to learn more about the organization and its local vendors. This event gave me great experience in networking, practicing my interviewing skills, recording responses, and entry-level photography! I wrote this to practice drafting press-releases for the future.
JOUR 101 Cover Story
In my JOUR 101 class, we were assigned an interview with a local business in counties surrounding Oxford, Mississippi. The writing format was aimed to mimic a press release article or “cover story.” I chose Millcreek of Pontotoc to learn more about mental health services offered in the area. I have always been interested in promoting well-being not only for myself, but for my community as well. By connecting with the Director of Business Development, Jimma Smith, and Clinical Director, Cassidy Patton, I obtained deeper insight into how the youth in our state are impacted by the services available.

William Magee Center Article
At the beginning of my journey at Ole Miss, I became very familiar with the William Magee Center on campus. Consequently, after getting to know some of the amazing staff, I immediately wanted to get involved. My junior year, I participated in a trial run of a new program for students: peer-to-peer mentorship training. I felt a strong sense of purpose and strongly resonated with the organization’s mission, so of course once I got the opportunity to write about it for my IMC 390 class, I did! This article was meant to mimic a press release and involved interviewing program directors.
